A caller to last Wednesday's installment of Technology Bytes described a problem he was having with an AMD processor that ran too hot. In the ensuing discussion of aftermarket CPU fans, one of the Techbytes crew mentioned that he knew of CPU coolers so large and heavy that they require the installation of backer plates under the motherboard prevent the board from breaking under the stress. CPU coolers can't help but be heavy because of their massive heat sinks, required to soak up and spread out all the heat generated by modern CPUs.
