The folks over at Computer Shopper got their hands on one of the new ASUS W90Vp-X1 gaming laptops, and after putting it through some extensive test, lauds it as something of a beast. Not just in size, mind you - it’s 18.4″ and weighs in at 11.5 POUNDS (!!), after all - but with frequent usage of such PC enthusiast drool-inducing descriptors like “blistering“, “performed brilliantly“, and “besting Alienware“, seems like the sheer power of it deserves some “gargantuan” praise as well.
The physical size is understandable, given its classification as “desktop replacement“, but as we all know, gaming computers pack a pretty huge punch - what’s under the hood of the W90? When one sees the specs, it all becomes clear:

Whew. Admittedly, it’s not a Nehalem-based system and there’s no solid state boot drive, nor a Blu-ray drive, but I think this’ll have to do. After all, it posts a 4,665 PCMark score (highest ever for a laptop) and a 3DMark06 score of 12,903, well near the top of the pack. Utilizing the DirectX 9 test in Company of Heroes pumped out a staggering 151 frames per second, and an overclocked (yes, you can overclock a laptop!) test under DX 10 yielded 54.6 fps, the highest ever recorded for a laptop.
As for battery life, well, under a DVD battery-rundown test, the monstrous 12-cell battery clocked in at a full… 69 minutes. That’s why they call these babies desktop replacements…
The Asus W90Vp-X1 is currently available exclusively from Newegg for $2200 - quite reasonable, actually, considering that it’s the fastest thing south of a 50-pound desktop…
